Didn’t get to travel enough in 2015? Make traveling one of your New Year’s resolutions for 2016. There are plenty of things, big and small, that you can add to your resolutions list. Here are some of our favorites:
Use all of your vacation days.
Many businesses offer vacation days to their employees, but last year, around 42 percent of Americans didn’t take a single day of it. If you were part of that 42 percent, don’t be this coming year. In fact, make it a goal to take all of your vacation days. You’ve earned them, so why not use them to travel?
Head to a city you’ve always wanted to visit.
Have you always wanted to see the Golden Gate Bridge? Or maybe it’s been a dream of yours to catch a Cubs game in Chicago. If you have a major city on your bucket list of places to go, make it a reality this coming year. Find out the best time of year to go and book your trip asap.
Travel outside the country.
Taking in the sights, sounds, foods, and overall culture of another country is an eye-opening experience, so why not make it one of your travel resolutions? Whether it’s an exotic destination like India or just over the border to Mexico, you’ll be glad you went.
Plan a trip alone.
There are plenty of benefits to traveling alone (see our blog “6 Good Reasons to Travel Solo“) and if you haven’t done it yet, make 2016 the year to do so. Head to a spot you’ve always wanted to visit or explore an area known for its solo travelers (such as Costa Rica or Norway).
Have a travel fund.
Do you constantly want to travel, but don’t have the money to do so? Change that. For every paycheck you get, put a little bit of money into a travel fund and don’t use it for anything else. Once you have enough to take a trip somewhere, don’t hesitate!
Say yes to anything.
Traveling is all about experiencing new and exciting things, so whether it’s a vacation idea or an excursion while you’re there, take a chance and say yes to it. It’ll not only be refreshing to try something new, but it might be the best story you’ll have.
Take a road trip.
Road trips are a great way to travel because you don’t have to go very far. Try a world-famous restaurant a few hours away or head to the next state over for an annual festival. Better yet, if you have friends that live within driving distance, plan a trip to see them.
