There are 59 national parks throughout the country, and each one has a unique experience to offer. If you’re planning on visiting one of them, make sure you do your research into which one you want to visit. Then, remember these things:
Spend More Than One Day
On average, national parks are quite large, which means there’s no way to see all that it has to offer in just one day. Don’t make the mistake of trying to plan a short trip to a national park – take at least a weekend (or even a week!). You won’t regret it.
Stay in the Park
National parks are beautiful, and the best part of visiting is the chance to stay inside the park. Look into the lodging offers the park has and book a cabin, a lodge, or even camp. You’ll be able to get up and walk right out your door into a scenic wonderland.
Don’t Pack too Much
If you love hiking and are planning on hiking around the park, don’t pack too much. You don’t want to be lugging around more than you need.
Check for Free Days
Every year, many national parks offer free admission on certain days (usually holidays), so before you go, check to see if you can plan your trip around a free day. You’ll save money and chances are, it’ll be a day you already have off of work.
There Are Wild Animals
No matter which national park you choose, remember that there are animals that roam freely throughout it. Be careful and alert for ones that could be dangerous, such as bears, wolves, coyotes, snakes, and more.
Travel with a Group
National parks usually charge by the carload, so instead of traveling with just a couple people, travel with a group. You’ll be able to split the entrance fee with more people and save some money.
Respect the Park
No matter what park you visit, you can bet there’s a team of people who work hard to keep it clean and beautiful, so when you go, respect the park and its workers and don’t leave it worse than how you found it.
Learn About the Area
There’s a lot of history behind each and every national park, so don’t plan a visit without doing some research. You’ll love knowing some fun facts about the sights you see.
