luggage choices

Today, you can find luggage in all shapes, sizes and materials, which makes it a little hard to choose the best one for your next trip. When it comes to choosing, think about either the kind of traveler you are or the type of luggage you’re looking for. Here’s a little help from our Newark Airport parking members:

Traveler

Family – When you travel as a family, being able to spot your luggage quickly is a must. Try investing in a matching set that stands out in baggage claim (such as bright colors or unique patterns). Also look for luggage that rolls, so it’s easier for your children to transport.

Business – Since business travel is usually only a few days, try sticking to carry-on luggage. If you don’t check your bag, you won’t have to worry about losing it. And because you can bring one carry-on suitcase and one “personal item,” you can make the most of your personal item. Try traveling with a small duffle or backpack and ladies, opt for a large purse.

Frequent – If you travel a lot, you may want to choose a luggage set that is more well made and resilient, since you’ll be using it a lot. Also, if you travel with our laptop a lot, look for a piece of luggage with a built-in laptop sleeve. Also look for luggage with helpful pockets – you can keep toiletries and basic outfits in here at all times so that you are already partially packed at any moment.

International – Traveling abroad can be tough to choose. You’ll likely be toting your luggage around with you a lot, which means you don’t want anything too heavy or difficult to transport. Try picking luggage that is lightweight and that rolls (the suitcases with four rollers are the easiest to move). Or, invest in a travel backpack.

Type

Luggage Sets – If you travel a lot, invest in a good luggage set that offers several suitcase sizes to choose from. Having several size options makes it easier to decide depending on where you’re going to or how long you’ll be staying.

Carry-On – Carry-on suitcases are perfect for short trips (say, 7 days or less). Most airlines accept suitcases not larger than 22 inches x 14 inches x 9 inches, so keep this in mind while you’re shopping. Also keep in mind the amount of space you get with each brand – some offer more than others.

Duffel Bags – Duffel bags are great if you’re traveling for just a few days and don’t need to carry your luggage very far. Since they’re made of a soft material, they can fit easily into a car or the overhead compartment on a plane. However, they’re not ideal for keeping clothes wrinkle-free, so consider what clothing you’ll need for the trip.

Do you have a favorite piece of luggage for your travels? If so, what is it?
