Frontier Airlines

Frontier only allows pets to fly as carry-on items; there is no cargo service for pets.

Health Requirements:

Frontier requires a health certificate for your pet if you’re traveling to an international destination. It does not require a health certificate for pets carried in the cabin within the U.S., however, a certificate may be required upon arrival by the specific state in which you are landing.

Spirit Airlines

Spirit only allows pets to fly as carry-on items; there is no cargo service for pets.

Price:

$100-$110 one-way (via outside sources)

Health Requirements:

Pets must be at least eight weeks old, fully weaned, and cannot be ill, violet, or in physical distress. In addition, Spirit does not allow pets to travel internationally, so it does not require a health certificate for pets traveling with customers in the aircraft cabin.

Virgin America

Virgin America only allows pets to fly as carry-on items; there is no cargo service for pets. All statistics are subject to change once the airline becomes fully part of Alaska Airlines.

Health Requirements:

Pets must be at least eight weeks old and fully weaned. For travel to Mexico, “all pet owners must present a veterinary certificate dated within fifteen (15) days of departure, verifying the animal’s shots are current and proof of the animal’s age. The certificate must include proof of rabies and distemper vaccination.”

Hawaiian Airlines

Price:

Pets in cargo: $60 one-way (for travel within the state of Hawaii)/$225 one-way (for travel to/from North America)

Pets in cabin: $35 one-way (for travel within the state of Hawaii)/$175 one-way (for travel to North America)

Carrier Dimensions:

In cabin: Up to 16 x 10 x 9.5

In cargo: 21 x 16 x 15 (small)/27 x 20 x 19 (medium)/32 x 22 x 23 (large)/36 x 24 x 26 (x-large)

Health Requirements:

Pets must be at least eight weeks old and must travel with an animal health certificate. “You are responsible for obtaining an animal health certificate from your animal’s treating veterinarian, prior to the initial date of departure.”

Breed Restrictions: 

“Due to respiratory difficulties an animal may experience while in transit and in Hawaii’s tropical climate, it is highly discouraged and not recommended that brachycephalic (short-nosed) animals travel as checked baggage.”

Allegiant Air

Allegiant Air only allows pets to fly as carry-on items; there is no cargo service for pets.
